Historically, the Riccobene family has been in the masonry business for generations, going back to the familys roots in Sicily. Many family members are still residing throughout Italy and are continuing work in the masonry field as well as stone carving, construction and building architecture. In 1959 Tom Riccobene Sr. came to New Mexico from Washington D.C. and started doing business as Riccobene Masonry Company. Locally, almost the entire family has worked for the company at some point in time, whether it was in the capacity of a summer job or on a more permanent basis. The current President of the company Tom Riccobene Jr., and his brother Sal, the Vice President, started learning the trade as ten-year-old boys by assisting and observing their father, grandfather, uncles and fellow masons at work. A few years later they started doing some of the smaller aspects of the job like stacking brick and spreading mortar. By fifteen they were out working on the line laying brick and by seventeen running their own crews. Quite literally, they learned the business and all its accompanying aspects from the ground up. They laid stone, brick and block and other such work and in 1975 the company moved to its current location, incorporated and started the transition to making brick and other concrete products instead of just installing them. By 1979 the Company completed its transition to a manufacturing company.
